The Devil Card: Your Chains Are Loose | Astrology Ride of the Day
The Devil, Major Arcana 15, is one of the most misunderstood cards in the deck. This isn't about literal evil, it's about self-imposed bondage. Two figures stand chained to a pedestal, but the chains are loose enough to remove — they could walk away at any time. The Devil represents patterns that have become habitual and unconscious, attachments to material security, status, or comfort that limit growth, and the parts of ourselves we've given authority to, like fear, desire, and shame. The trap isn't locked, it's just familiar. In Capricorn, this becomes particularly potent — Saturn's domain, where ambition meets limitation, where we build empires or become slaves to them. Are you using structure to liberate yourself, or to imprison yourself in a world of "shoulds"? You are your own jailer. The door is open. Know thyself. Balance your energy.
Takeaways
- The Devil card isn't about literal evil — it's self-imposed bondage, with chains loose enough to remove at any time.
- In Capricorn, this card is especially potent because Saturn's domain is exactly where ambition meets limitation, either liberating you or imprisoning you.
- The real question is whether structure is being used to liberate you or trap you in a world of "shoulds" — you're your own jailer, and the door is already open.
