A Discourse on Shadow Work and Healing

Published on: 20th March, 2026

This podcast episode delves into the complexities of self-acceptance and the challenges associated with recognizing one's own imperfections. A salient discussion emerges regarding the concept of "perfectly imperfect" individuals, illustrating that the journey toward self-love often necessitates confronting personal flaws and narratives. Throughout the discourse, we explore the multifaceted reasons individuals may struggle to look in the mirror, not merely as a reflection of physical appearance but as a deeper confrontation with their emotional scars and histories. One poignant moment arises when a participant shares their internal conflict of loving one's reflection while simultaneously grappling with pain and loss, ultimately highlighting the necessity of undertaking emotional work or "shadow work." This episode underscores the essence of acknowledging both the light and shadow within ourselves as a foundational step toward holistic healing and self-acceptance.

Speaker A:

What say you, man?

Speaker B:

I think it's possible, and I don't think it's just, you know.

Speaker B:

Well, I mean, I'm pretty sure y' all don't.

Speaker B:

Y' all don't either.

Speaker B:

There's not one reason why anybody looking.

Speaker B:

You know, there's multiple reasons.

Speaker A:

Okay, bring up another one.

Speaker A:

Oh, we was just, you know, I'm just bringing up examples, bro.

Speaker A:

Feel free to exert.

Speaker A:

Insert your example of why somebody couldn't look.

Speaker A:

Hey, we ain't beat him up enough.

Speaker A:

Let's go

Speaker B:

this one.

Speaker B:

In this one.

Speaker C:

Wait, wait, wait.

Speaker C:

I do want to put this in there.

Speaker C:

Let me go ahead and read a couple of these.

Speaker A:

All right, Go ahead.

Speaker A:

Oh, okay.

Speaker C:

So the reason why I'm doing this is because.

Speaker C:

News flash, everybody.

Speaker C:

Stay tuned.

Speaker C:

There's gonna be part two and three to this.

Speaker A:

All right, so Rafiki is about to read a random.

Speaker A:

A response that he asked some people and randomly pick one and read it out.

Speaker A:

Refrigerator.

Speaker A:

Why you.

Speaker A:

Rafiki asked somebody, hey, can you look in the mirror?

Speaker A:

And this is.

Speaker A:

Was their response.

Speaker C:

So this individual responded, yes.

Speaker C:

And then I asked the other couple other questions.

Speaker C:

I can't remember the question I asked this particular person.

Speaker C:

And they said, I can myself for the perfectly imperfect imperfection that I am.

Speaker C:

And then they also said they look back to see where they actually came from when they looked into the mirror.

Speaker C:

So that was a short, sweet, simple one.

Speaker A:

Wait, wait, wait, wait.

Speaker A:

Stay right there.

Speaker A:

Did.

Speaker A:

Did you say I could look at my.

Speaker A:

I look at myself in the mirror for the perfectly imperfect imperfections that I am.

Speaker A:

What you think about that?

Speaker A:

Mental.

Speaker B:

Maybe they're looking.

Speaker B:

They're.

Speaker B:

They're.

Speaker B:

They are actually looking for the good and the bad, and that's what kind of what I'm getting from it.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I'm glad you said it, because, hey, I get a rap.

Speaker A:

Negative.

Speaker B:

But.

Speaker A:

But that's why I asked you first.

Speaker A:

Mental.

Speaker A:

But I'm look.

Speaker A:

Looking for the perfectly imperfect imperfection that.

Speaker A:

That kind of gave me up.

Speaker A:

That kind of gave me sort of a negative kind of tone, like, hey, I'm pointing out all my flaws and then trying to love those flaws.

Speaker A:

But in all actuality,

Speaker C:

It.

Speaker A:

In all actuality, would you actually be noticing them as flaws if he was really, truly accepting it?

Speaker C:

Well, see, I kind of look at this right here.

Speaker C:

When I hear the words perfectly imperfect, I'm looking at that.

Speaker C:

That they are accepting who they are through all.

Speaker C:

All aspects.

Speaker C:

Because if you remember correctly at the beginning, that's.

Speaker C:

That's what this is about.

Speaker C:

Healing.

Speaker C:

They're accepting all aspects of who they are.

Speaker C:

Your.

Speaker C:

Your famous quote, Know thyself, fellow, stay in it.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker C:

So me, that's someone that's.

Speaker C:

That is knowing who they are.

Speaker A:

Okay, But Rafiki, I got.

Speaker A:

I got two skimmed up elbows and some knees that got the skinned up by playing football and being a running back.

Speaker A:

When I look in the mirror, that don't even come to my consciousness, dog.

Speaker A:

Hey, your elbows are imperfect, but love them anyway.

Speaker A:

Because you got scarred up playing football.

Speaker C:

We don't know what the individual is actually.

Speaker A:

I know, I'm just.

Speaker A:

I. I'm just thinking logically.

Speaker A:

Not.

Speaker A:

I'm just thinking about that answer.

Speaker C:

Understandable.

Speaker A:

You do people.

Speaker A:

This is another thing.

Speaker A:

There.

Speaker A:

There is a.

Speaker A:

There is an underlining message to.

Speaker A:

To sentences and thought.

Speaker B:

Man, could.

Speaker B:

Could that possibly be like a cop out to.

Speaker B:

To not wanting to do work because.

Speaker B:

Because one.

Speaker B:

You know, you know, going back.

Speaker B:

Going back to, you know, being programmed into this program.

Speaker B:

Right?

Speaker B:

We was told that we are not perfect.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

You know, we.

Speaker B:

We were told that.

Speaker B:

That you'll never be perfect.

Speaker B:

There's only one perfect being and you're not it.

Speaker B:

Right?

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

So if that, that if that's already in my subconscious, that, that I don't.

Speaker B:

That I'm.

Speaker B:

I'm not perfect and I'm accepting my imperfections.

Speaker B:

You know, I mean, me, I just think that's a cop out because, you know, you should always try to be better.

Speaker B:

If you see that.

Speaker B:

That you got some flaws or some imperfections.

Speaker B:

It's not some.

Speaker B:

Some scars that you just can't make go away, but on some emotional stuff like, hey, this is how I am.

Speaker B:

People gotta deal with it.

Speaker B:

Like, like.

Speaker B:

No, no, you.

Speaker B:

You should.

Speaker A:

You should work on some damn Mental.

Speaker A:

I didn't.

Speaker A:

I wasn't there with it, but I could see what you're saying with that too.

Speaker A:

Hey, this part of me is imperfect and I' ma just love it instead of working on it.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Ouch.

Speaker A:

I didn't.

Speaker A:

Oh, wow.

Speaker A:

I didn't see it.

Speaker A:

Anyway,

Speaker C:

Rafiki, hang on one second.

Speaker A:

You ain't gotta.

Speaker A:

You ain't gotta.

Speaker A:

We got me and me and Mental.

Speaker A:

Take this part.

Speaker C:

So this individual.

Speaker A:

Hey y', all, what the.

Speaker A:

The opinions was that was just expressed belong to me and Mental.

Speaker A:

That had nothing to do with Rafiki's opinion on that was a no person

Speaker B:

that that comment came from?

Speaker B:

Yes, the comment itself.

Speaker A:

Yes, the comment itself.

Speaker A:

Not you personally.

Speaker C:

So this one here.

Speaker C:

I didn't want to do this one just yet, but since you brought something out and you'll see why I. I chose this one to do so.

Speaker C:

This.

Speaker C:

This person, they couldn't tell me live, you know, on my live stream, so they.

Speaker C:

I allowed them to privately send it to me when I was proposed.

Speaker C:

A question.

Speaker C:

Can I truly look into the mirror?

Speaker C:

I'm still trying to figure that out.

Speaker C:

Because every time I look, I'm being reminded of my pain, heartbreak, all.

Speaker C:

Also the people that have left me behind.

Speaker C:

I'm being reminded looking in the mirror that I love and I have lost.

Speaker C:

I can't look because my heart hurts too much.

Speaker C:

Looking at the heaviness I carry on my back.

Speaker C:

I hate my reflection.

Speaker C:

Then I remember and I look and I see my father's eyes, my mom's smile.

Speaker C:

And I am reminded that I am made of love.

Speaker C:

And through the gods and through God's eyes, I am not alone and I'm not forgotten.

Speaker C:

If I can take anything from this, it's to not allow the weight of the world to get you to lose yourself.

Speaker C:

Sometimes you need to take a step back before you sink or swim or feel the waters a little bit.

Speaker C:

Simply learn to let go and the laws of God in the universe won't leave you behind.

Speaker C:

I promise you.

Speaker C:

I have been through some heavy stuff that I thought would break me with trust.

Speaker C:

I had to lose in order to figure out my.

Speaker C:

What I don't see is that I am strong, confident woman, I have grown astronomically.

Speaker C:

Or that I can look in the mirror and say this whole time I was not lost.

Speaker C:

I just need to actually look in the mirror and realize Michael Jackson was right.

Speaker C:

As.

Speaker C:

As it starts with the man in the mirror.

Speaker A:

Mental.

Speaker A:

Do you have any response?

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker B:

That sounds like a person that truly is in the process of looking in the mirror and.

Speaker B:

And healing from the.

Speaker C:

Well,

Speaker A:

I could have a long answer.

Speaker A:

I could have a short answer.

Speaker A:

Which one you want, rafiki?

Speaker C:

Whatever one you want to do about whatever.

Speaker A:

I just asked you.

Speaker A:

I just asked you.

Speaker A:

Libra pick like that.

Speaker C:

You know what?

Speaker C:

I would be difficult.

Speaker C:

It wouldn't be rafiki if I wasn't.

Speaker C:

Give us both.

Speaker C:

Give us the long versions.

Speaker C:

Then give us the short version.

Speaker A:

A short version?

Speaker A:

Is rafiki one of the.

Speaker A:

One of the things that you talk about a lot that people need to do, and from the beginning of what that person said, it seems like they haven't done it, which is shadow work.

Speaker A:

That's the short answer.

Speaker C:

Notice you said see.

Speaker A:

Huh?

Speaker C:

Notice you said the word seemed to me.

Speaker C:

Maybe they have and maybe they haven't.

Speaker C:

Well, you're assuming that the person did it.

Speaker C:

But when you when you go down a little bit further, you can see that the person actually starting to do.

Speaker A:

I'm just saying, what do I hear?

Speaker A:

What do I hear?

Speaker A:

Starting and completing are two different things.

Speaker A:

And what does Paul say here?

Speaker A:

Hey, somebody needs to do some shadow work.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

Now, I could tell you the why if you want.

Speaker A:

That would be the long answer.

Speaker C:

Go ahead this year.

Speaker A:

Because.

Speaker A:

Because if you, if you, if you go back to the beginning of it, the reasons why they struggle.

Speaker B:

Hey, was it reminded of the scars.

Speaker A:

Reminding of scars of stories?

Speaker C:

You know what I hear?

Speaker C:

But, but do you know what I actually hear out of this one right here?

Speaker A:

Wait, wait, no, Rafiki, let me finish first.

Speaker C:

Okay, I'll ship.

Speaker A:

You said, you said you wanted the long.

Speaker A:

This is why I said, hey, which one you want the shorter long?

Speaker A:

I'm giving you the long.

Speaker A:

And now here's the loan.

Speaker A:

If you go back to the beginning of it, it talks about, hey, I struggle because of this, this, this and this.

Speaker A:

These are aspects of stories that I hear and I know, hey, if somebody does the shadow work, what's at the end of shadow work?

Speaker A:

Rafiki, what do I know that's at the end of the shadow work?

Speaker A:

Hey, you will be able to look in the mirror and face that because you will, after doing the shadow work, you will see reasons that you had to go through some of that.

Speaker A:

And not only that, you will start falling in love with your story.

Speaker B:

It goes

Speaker A:

now, hey, if you can't look in the mirror because of your story, hey, you got some work to do because your story is a beautiful story that you need to fall in love with.

Speaker A:

It's not a story.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you went through some stuff and all of that, but it's a beautiful story if you do the work and truly change.

Speaker A:

Hey, here's another thing I wrote down.

Speaker A:

She said.

Speaker A:

She said something that I said.

Speaker A:

In the episode of I Am Astrology, readings change.

Speaker A:

I forgot the episode number.

Speaker A:

It wasn't too long ago.

Speaker A:

Sometimes I said, is it.

Speaker A:

You remember this question if you heard the Is it best to take one step back to go two steps forward?

Speaker A:

Didn't that person mention that in.

Speaker C:

In what you read Something similar to it, but not exactly.

Speaker A:

Yeah, hey, you know, I ain't.

Speaker C:

I know it's a thing.

Speaker A:

I know the theme.

Speaker A:

It's a theme that they was hinting at.

Speaker A:

Hey, taking a step back is actually stepping back and looking at the shadow stuff and not only doing the shadow work and all that coming to acceptance and then, and then, and then the knowing.

Speaker C:

Knowing this person was actually saying, no, they can't look their self.

Speaker C:

And they was giving the reasons why they could.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And now I'm giving the reasons what I hear.

Speaker A:

Why.

Speaker A:

Why here they came because.

Speaker C:

Because some of the shadow work.

Speaker C:

Some of the shadow work, like you said, that I could be talking about.

Speaker A:

Yeah, but.

Speaker A:

But it goes back to Rafiki.

Speaker A:

It goes back to.

Speaker A:

Hey, People don't realize how much there's underlining meanings to sentences and things that they say that people can extract from that.

Speaker A:

Yeah, that's what she said.

Speaker A:

But what did I hear?

Speaker A:

What did I hear?

PAUL HEATH

I am Paul. When I reflect back on my life, I was always interested in astrology. I would read my daily horoscope in the newspaper every day and often wonder, “how do they know?”
One day I was told I am a “cusp of beauty”, because my birthday was the last day of Virgo. I went home to research what cusp of beauty meant. My curiosity soared when finding out the meaning. I didn’t realize that I had just begun the journey of “Know Thyself.”
Learning how to read my natal chart I acquired the skills to assist others with deciphering their own chart-energy. Astrology has helped me understand and accept me for who I am. Although still work in progress, knowing about myself is surely making the process easier. I enjoy helping others (Virgo Sun) with the information I have gathered (Gemini Rising) that will help transform lives (Scorpio Moon) in a positive way.
I look forward to meeting and working with you as we embark on your journey.
